i found recently that mysqld.exe on my XAMPP system is having high memory usage around 450 MB. And it just steadily sit there all the time.
After a brief googling, i found this solution, to set performance_schema = off
inside my.ini (C:\xampp\mysql\bin folder)
Afterwards, the mem usage become around 250 MB.

I dont have time to learn what the actual effect of that setting, so i'll just leave it like that for the sake of convenience

Windows 8 Store tidak berfungsi

Pernahkah anda mengklik "Store" pada Windows 8, lalu tampilan hijau itu muncul namun hanya sebentar?
Well, saya mengalaminya. Lalu setelah melihat error pada event viewer, nampak error sbb :

Activation of app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store failed with error: The system cannot find the file specified. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

Maka saya coba googling, dan setelah beberapa kali mencoba beberapa solusi, saya berhasil membuka aplikasi Store dengan solusi ini :

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

jalankan perintah tsb di command prompt, dengan elevasi Administrator.
Sebelumnya, dia sempat error, dengan muncul tulisan merah, namun setelah saya restart windows (biasanya saya hibernate, JARANG restart), dan saya coba lagi, maka command tsb berhasil, dan saya bisa membuka aplikasi Store

"cannot find installation isam" itulah error yang muncul di saat saya mencoba me-refresh koneksi excel ke access. sebelumnya, error tsb belum pernah muncul. kemungkinan besar ini terjadi setelah install ulang ms office dari versi 2013 ke 2010. kenapa kok "downgrade"? yeah, karena ternyata outlook 2013 tidak punya fasilitas instant search, dan access 2013 tidak punya pivot chart :( solusinya ternyata simple : lihatlah connection properties dari koneksi tsb, lalu lihat ini

Indoclix login problem

For about 2 days i couldnt log into indoclix.com. It always give me "903" number and i dont know what it means. Submitting a support ticket just get a reply about mentioning my ISP and my country, and then the ticket was closed. As a curious person, i've always tried to see things that are different, and then i noticed it.
The indoclix login page has been slightly changed. Usually it shows us somekind of "captcha" image verification. But on latter days, it didnt.
As i'm a lazy person, i didnt bother to visit indoclix forum to get more information about this issue, and i tried to solve it by myself.
Currently, indoclix login page shows up "veridipass" logo on it. My best guess is that veridipass is the new verification method issued by indoclix. And my guess was right.
I've been visiting indoclix using a dedicated private proxy, and lately i've been using privoxy to filter and route indoclix or other PTC-related URLs to go through this proxy. It seems that my request didnt go to veridipass by this proxy, so that's why i couldnt log in.
So, i just had to add veridipass-related URL into privoxy config, and VOILA!
I could log into indoclix again....

Plugin container exe on firefox

Recently, my laptop has become so laggy. Even moving the mouse pointer is a hard work. I don't know why, at first. But then i noticed that the strange things happened when Firefox was running.

As usual, i'm looking on my beloved Windows Task Manager. I could see that Firefox is consuming about 500 MB memory. Well, that's natural, since i've always opened lots of tabs. But this didn't satisfy me, because i knew that this is quite normal for me. There must be something else.

At first, i got suspicious that this was the results of windows updates. But then, i couldn't find any evidence to prove it.

After experiencing another lag sessions, i decided to kill my Firefox from task manager. And that's when i saw this particular process, it's called "plugin-container.exe". The description for this program is "Firefox Plugin Container". This is suspicious enough for me, since i didnt know that firefox had a feature like this.

After googling about it, i found that this exe is a new feature, released along with 3.6.4 version. It's usage was to "contain" all the plugins that Firefox had, for example Flash plugin, so that when the plugin crashed, it didn't crash the whole browser.

So i followed these tweak to disable this the-so-called container.
It's via about:config, and change these items to FALSE :
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npctrl.dll (Microsoft Silverlight)
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npqtplugin.dll (Apple QuickTime)
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll (Adobe Flash)
dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nptest.dll (NPAPI test plugin)

After that, restart the Firefox, and good bye the lag!!

Mengoptimalkan memory usage pada Windows XP

Sejak dulu saya suka tweak, terutama registry tweak, sebab saya yakin bahwa nilai-nilai parameter dalam registry tsb pasti ada gunanya, hanya saja kita 'tidak diberi tahu' oleh Mikocok. Dan satu hal yang sedari dulu 'menghantui' saya adalah bagaimana cara mengoptimalkan memory usage pada Windows XP (Pro).

Setelah cari di sana-sini dan mencoba menerapkannya, maka saat ini saya menggunakan konfigurasi yang saya anggap optimal. Sehubungan dengan profesi saya sebagai Drivetester, dimana saya sering menggunakan aplikasi Map Info dan TEMS, maka saya jadikan kedua aplikasi tsb sebagai barometer optimasi.

Sebelum optimasi :

Tampilah Map ataupun MCOM pada TEMS dan Map Info terasa sangat lambat jika 'digeser'.

Harapan setelah optimasi :

Tampilan tidak lambat

Maka, inilah yang saya terapkan melalui registry :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

Lalu edit NonPagedPoolQuota.

Saya menggunakan angka desimal 64000000, yang saya asumsikan setara dengan nilai 64 MB.

Mengapa 64 MB? Sebab saya perhatikan melalui Task Manager (sebelum optimasi), bahwa sistem saya cenderung memiliki nilai NonPaged sebesar 60xxx s/d 64xxx (entah itu dalam satuan MB atau tidak, hehehe).

Selain itu saya juga mengedit nilai DisablePagingExecutive dari 0 menjadi 1.

Hal ini hanya efektif pada sistem dengan memory di atas 512 MB, dimana sistem akan mencoba 'mengikat' memory-memory pada RAM, bukan pada harddisk (virtual memory). Sebab akses pada RAM jauh lebih cepat daripada akses pada harddisk.

Dan hal lain yang juga penting adalah ukuran Virtual Memory. Di sini saya menggunakan ukuran 3 GB, yaitu tiga kali lipat ukuran RAM saya, yaitu 1 GB.

Penjelasan :

Seperti yang telah disebutkan di atas yaitu untuk DisablePagingExecutive, tweak ini akan 'memaksa' sistem untuk menaruh memory pada RAM, bukan pada harddisk. Namun perlu diperhatikan pula quota dan ukuran memory yang ditaruh pada RAM tsb, agar sistem tetap optimal. Karena itulah perubahan nilai NonPagedPoolQuota dilakukan. Setelah tweak ini saya terapkan, nilai NonPaged pada sistem saya menjadi stabil pada angka 62xxx s/d 63xxx.

Hasil setelah optimasi :

Tampilan TEMS dan Map Info menjadi tidak lambat. Selain itu, aplikasi seperti Mozilla Firefox yang biasanya 'memakan' banyak pagefile menjadi lebih 'kalem'. Walaupun tetap saja akses terhadap file pada saat Windows Explorer dibuka tetap lambat, hal ini gara-gara anti virus. Yah, tapi lumayan lah.

Membetulkan komputer yang Remote Desktop nya tidak bisa diakses

Komputer server di kantor saya mendadak tidak dapat diakses melalui Remote Desktop. Padahal service ataupun konfigurasi nya tidak ada yang berubah. Seperti biasa, saya memulai investigasi dari "compmgmt.msc", sebab di situ terletak komplit services, users, events, dsb. Karena tidak ada perubahan pada services, maka saya mencoba melihat pada events, dan ternyata ada event :

Alhasil saya mencari di google dengan kata kunci "RDPDD.dll", dan saya pun memperoleh solusi dan jawaban yang cukup sederhana dari http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whssoftware/thread/c41fb638-c422-45e6-8618-1cd37a5e1b81

Disebutkan bahwa hal itu kemungkinan besar terjadi sebab instalasi driver vga Nvidia yang terbaru, yaitu 175.16 and 175.1. Dan solusi nya adalah me-rollback ke driver sebelumnya. Usut punya usut, memang sehari sebelumnya saya menginstall game Resident Evil 5 di komputer tsb, dan memang ada update driver Nvidia pada saat proses instalasi.

Karena saya tidak ingin game saya 'terganggu' (egois mode ON), maka saya mencoba mencari solusi lain, dan alhamdulillah ketemu, yaitu melalui perubahan registry. Tambahkan nilai registry berikut :

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

"SessionImageSize"=dword:00000020

Setelah itu restart komputer, maka semoga Remote Desktop bisa kembali dilakukan (saat posting ini ditulis, komputer belum sempat di-restart, jadi saya belum tahu efeknya ......)

Membetulkan komputer yang tidak bisa mengakses file sharing

Dasar Permasalahan

Laptop Acer 4720Z milik teman saya tidak bisa mengakses file sharing yang ada di jaringan LAN di kantor kami

Gejala

Untuk mengakses file sharing, ada beberapa cara :

Keluarkan menu 'run', dan masukkan IP address dari mesin yang memiliki file sharing, didahului dengan tanda "\\", misal : "\\192.168.0.1". Lalu ketik OK. Bila berhasil, maka akan muncul windows explorer yang menunjukkan isi dari file sharing tsb. Namun jika tidak berhasil maka akan muncul :

Oh tidakkkk
Keluarkan CMD, lalu masukkan perintah sebagai berikut :

net use \\192.168.0.1

jika berhasil akan muncul :

the command completed successfully

namun jika tidak, akan muncul :

System error 53 has occurred.
The network path was not found.

Nah, kira-kira hal seperti itulah yang terjadi pada laptop teman saya tersebut...
Hal seperti itu dapat terjadi jika ada service yang tidak running, yaitu Server dan Computer Browser. Setelah saya cek melalui services.msc, ternyata memang benar bahwa kedua service tsb tidak running. Lalu saya pun coba untuk men-start service Server terlebih dahulu, hasilnya? Dia running tanpa ada masalah.
Kedua, saya memeriksa kondisi service Computer Browser yang ternyata Stopped, dan ketika saya coba untuk men-start, dia running tanpa ada masalah. Namun, entah mengapa semua Gejala di atas tetap terjadi.
Setelah merenung beberapa saat, perhatian saya tertuju kepada ikon Wireless Connection yang sedari tadi mencoba "Acquiring Network Address". Saya mulai curiga, apakah itu ada hubungannya?
Dugaan saya cukup beralasan, service DHCP Client ternyata dalam status Stopped, dan ketika saya Start, dia gagal dengan alasan Dependencies (hal yang menyebalkan di semua dunia Sistem Operasi).
Setelah saya cek, service ini membutuhkan tiga service untuk running, yaitu :

AFD
NetBios over Tcpip
TCP/IP Protocol Driver

Untuk memperbaikinya, ada beberapa langkah :

Langkah I - Pastikan bahwa ketiga driver tsb ada.

Buka Windows Explorer dan buka folder %Windir%\System32\Drivers. Folder %Windir% merupakan variabel, di tempat saya contohnya "C:\WINDOWS\". Pastikan bahwa file-file berikut ada pada folder :

afd.sys
tcpip.sys
netbt.sys

Jika file tidak ada, maka ambillah mereka dari CD Windows XP atau dari folder ServicePackFiles\i386, yang mana merupakan versi terakhir.

Langkah II - Pastikan jumlah Dependencies

Untuk melihat dependencies dari DHCP Client, ketikkan perintah berikut di menu Run :

CMD /K SC QC DHCP

Cek output nya, ia harus mirip dengan berikut :

[SC] GetServiceConfig SUCCESS

SERVICE_NAME: dhcp
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
START_TYPE : 2 AUTO_START
ERROR_CONTROL : 1 NORMAL
BINARY_PATH_NAME : C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP : TDI
TAG : 0
DISPLAY_NAME : DHCP Client
DEPENDENCIES : Tcpip
: Afd
: NetBT
SERVICE_START_NAME : LocalSystem

Jika ada entry tambahan di Dependencies, maka harus dihapus melalui registry. Lakukan :

Klik Start, Run, dan ketikan Regedit
Masuk ke dalam Branch ini :
Sebelumnya, Backup branch ke dalam file REG

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Dhcp

Double-click value DependOnService dan ubah data menjadi berikut :

Tcpip Afd NetBT

Tutup Regedit.exe

Langkah III - Pastikan Dependencies Services/Drivers sedang Running

Click Start, Run dan masukkan DEVMGMT.MSC
Pada View menu, klik Show hidden devices
Double-click Non-Plug and Play drivers
Double-click AFD, dan klik tab Driver
Set Startup type menjadi System.
Start service. Catat pesan error jika ada.
Juga lakukan hal yang sama terhadap service berikut:

* TCP/IP Protocol Driver * NetBios over Tcpip

Tutup Device Manager dan restart Windows.

Pada kasus teman saya, saya tak perlu restart Windows, dan problem telah teratasi.
Alhamdulillah ....

Pin to start menu

Bakunya, perintah Pin to Start Menu hanya tampil manakala sebuah executable file diklik-kanan. Mungkin sudah banyak yang tahu kalau perintah ini untuk meletakkan shortcut aplikasi terkait langsung di menu Start Microsoft Windows Vista. Yang mungkin tidak banyak diketahui, perintah tersebut sebenarnya bisa juga difungsikan untuk folder.

Mau tahu bagaimana caranya? Simak di bawah ini.

1. Jalankan Registry Editor.

2. Masuklah ke subkey HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT-Folder-shellex-ContextMenuHandlers.

3. Lalu buatlah key baru dengan mengklik kanan subkey ContextMenuHandlers, disusul memilih opsi [New] > [Key].

4. Namai key baru tersebut persis seperti ini: {a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}. Biarkan nilainya tetap nol.

5. Tutup jendela Registry.

Kini jalankan Windows Explorer. Pilih salah satu folder, lalu klik-kanan pada folder tersebut sambil menahan tombol Shift. Nah, perintah Pin to Start Menu akan tampil di menu konteks. Kliklah perintah itu untuk meletakkan folder di menu Start. *
